The first steps in the establishment of Landskrona Photographic Centre are now being taken with the commencement of the first phase in the reconstruction. The building, which was erected in the 1880s and stands opposite Landskrona Museum, has a total area of 3600 square metres. The reconstruction will continue for two or three years as the activities currently housed in the building can move out. The first phase concerns premises for Bilder i Syd, which is the joint picture archive of the
newspapers Sydsvenska Dagbladet and Helsingborgs Dagblad. With roughly 20 million pictures from several newspapers in the province of Skåne, the archive has one of the biggest collections of images in the country. Since this includes press pictures from the last 90 years, it is an important source for research and the dissemination of knowledge
about the history of Sweden and Skåne.
The continuation of the project includes premises for Landskrona Foto’s own archive, for teaching, exhibitions on the history of photography, research rooms, library, etc. The old gymnasium will be turned into a large space for temporary exhibitions, fairs and conferences.
