What´s past is prologue
Anniversary exhibition Fotografi Östra Grevie
Alumni participants 1993-2023
Borgmästargatan 1, Landskrona 6/9-22/9 2024 (the gallery is open weekends Fri-Sun. )
On the occasion of Fotografi Östra Grevie’s 30th birthday, Fotografi Östra Grevie is making a anniversary exhibition What ́s Past is Prologue” during Landskrona Foto Festival 2024.
We are very happy and proud that the school has been training photographers for three decades, and we want to celebrate this, of course. Happily, our education continues to grow with an increasing number of applicants every year. Gunther Raud started the education in 1993. Now we want to connect the past with the present and have therefore chosen to invite a number of alumni participants who are educated at Fotografi during 1993–2023 to exhibit. There is also a publication for the exhibition.
One day at a time – Håkan Karlsson
Café Nell Walden, Landskrona Museum.
On New Year’s Day 2019, picture 1 of 365 was taken. It would be one picture a day for 365 days. During the pandemic, the project One Day at a Time grew. The project is a retrospective photo diary, chronological in date but not in year. A picture for every day.
In his pictures, Håkan Karlsson moves both in Scania and Europe. They are pictures of the environment, everyday life and people. In the exhibition you can see a small selection from the project’s total of 366 images.
Håkan Karlsson is the 2022 Nell Walden scholarship holder. The scholarship is awarded to a person who works in the spirit of Nell Walden. Håkan works in the city where Nell grew up and works constantly to raise the culture in Landskrona. He has been working as an editor for Landskrona Direkt since 2003 and also runs Galleri Direkt. In 2020 he received the Landskrona Cultural Scholarship and he participated in the Landskrona Foto Festival through Foto Friends in 2022 and 2020 with exhibitions at Galleri Direkt. In 2016 and 2018, he participated in Landskronit, which brought together local photographers at Landskrona Konsthall.
This Person Does Not Exist – Nina Slejko Blom
Klet Contemporary, Fiskargränden 12B, 261 29 Landskrona
2024-08-31 – 09-29, in the windows of the gallery, exhibition accessible from the street
The exhibition includes images generated by an AI face generator, a text written by an AI text generator, a QR Code, a webpage + a work proposition from Dr. Nehir Yara Balik (or a phishing email sent by a robot) –
The images in the windows, deceptively lifelike, have been generated by a web-based face generator, creating fake faces of non-existent humans from the unnervingly precise thispersondoesnotexist.com. An AI can fashion a face and weave a story like a person; but perhaps the very definition of ”a person” is slipping away from us. As we channel our energy and resources into these AI systems, what are we truly sacrificing? What are we getting in return?
These AI-generated faces, perfect for fake profiles, can be used by both robots and humans to mask true identities. We are all too willing to let others, even machines, do our work for us. Comfort is our god, and we trust these AI creations—until a seemingly perfect face morphs, sprouting an ear from its nose, jolting us back to a disconcerting reality.
In time, our daily interactions become dominated by these artificial entities. We might forget what it feels like to interact with a real human. We drown in a sea of flawless impostors, losing touch with genuine human contact, until the very essence of what it means to be human begins to blur. And in that uncanny moment, a Madagascar jewel shimmers in the distance, reflecting an iridescent glow.
The unicorn appears, its horn spiraling into the void.
TIDSVITTNEN – Thor-Björn Johansson & Örjan Kristenson
Galleri Slottet 7, Citadellet Landskrona 6/9 – 15/9 (samma öppettider som festivalen)
Photography is preserved time, a hundredth of a second that…when you’ve taken your picture, it’s already history. That is why Thor-Björn Johansson and Örjan Kristenson go back in time, showing images from a bygone era – the 70s and 80s. A time may seem distant but is not much different from the time we live in now. Örjan shows images from four reportages; Artisans in Kalmar County, a trip to Poland, the Röhälla guest house north of the Öland Bridge and the circus in Färjestaden. Thor-Björn’s pictures are from Hede in Härjedalen, Långbro mental hospital and dance evenings at the city hotel Rogge in Srängnäs.
Forte e non solo – Charlotta di Montefalco
Svenska Mäklarhuset, Östergatan 35, Landskrona 7/9-31/12
Photographs from Italy.
Photography as therapy – Mikael Svensson
Landskrona Stadsbibliotek, Regeringsgatan 13, Landskrona. 31/8-28/9
How do you get through a depression, a tough period of your life?
I do not claim to know the answer. But four years into my own depression, in the beginning of 2022, I invested in a camera. With it I found a new way to express myself, a way to describe how I felt, something that is not always so easy to do with words alone. By also sharing these images I felt an increased understanding from people around me. They could see me for who I was and how I felt at any given time. The feeling of loneliness decreased as I included others in this way.
By the end of 2022 I felt noticeably better, which people could see in my photos, and the idea for my book was born where I shared my journey. In this exhibition I invite you to see a selection of images. Most of them are from my book.
I invite you to see how I used photography as therapy.
Mikael Svensson from Landskrona is a photographer since a few years with a focus on street photography and an interest for how one can use photography to express how you feel.
