Hatte Stiwenius (1949\u20142007) is considered the foremost interpreter of the rise of punk rock in Stockholm during the 1970s and 1980s. His photographs not only take us on stage but also capture life behind and in front of it. We meet the people who saw rebellion and liberating freedom in punk. In this rebellious time, Hatte Stiwenius not only finds his own visual language but also a sense of belonging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hatte Stiwenius passed away in 2007. He left behind twenty-four boxes with unsorted image material. After sorting, cataloging and digitizing, the Hatte Stiwenius Collection has been available for documentaries, books and exhibitions. Travel, music and polaroids dominate. In this exhibition, his photographs from the breakthrough of punk in Stockholm take center stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition also includes the project TRASH!, Here Hatte Stiwenius documented Stockholm’s club life, of which he himself was a part. For the project, he used a black-and-white polaroid film, which after development was mounted in slide frames – to be projected onto the walls of the club during the same night. From the slides, a number of Cibachrome prints were made in 1988, which were shown at the Houston FotoFest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
