<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garden Sounds (2024\u20132026) was inspired by research on \u201cacoustic terror\u201d conducted by researchers from the Ukrainian NGO the Maidan Monitoring Information Center. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The phenomenon of \u201cacoustic terror\u201d was first introduced in Liubov\u00b4s hometown of Kharkiv and explores how constant shelling alters the perception of sound, causing everyday sounds to be mistakenly perceived as threats, as well as how prolonged acoustic terror affects mental and physical well-being. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of two years, through field sound recordings, textual descriptions of sound, and photographs of a single garden, Liubov has been trying to understand whether it is possible to convey the sensation of acoustic terror and war. The photographs show an ordinary garden, and only the sounds serve as a reminder of the war.

Liubov Durakova lives and works in Ukraine. She studied documentary filmmaking in Ukraine and Poland. Recently she has been focusing more on working with photography. After the full-scale invasion in 2022, by using analog photography, field sound recordings, creating photo zines and experimenting with video. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durakova is the winner of the Landskrona Foto & Breadfield Dummy Award 2026. The Dummy Award enables the winner to have his or her book project published by Landskrona Foto and Breadfield Press during 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
