Peripheral vision is the ability to see things outside of your direct line of sight. To notice and pay attention to what isn’t necessarily most obvious is a gift that the photographers in this book share. They represent different views and approaches to a changing Sweden and shows a selection of contemporary photography that oscillates between the documentary and the poetic. This book collects twenty Swedish photographic practices, most of which have emerged during the last decade. It is produced by The Center for Photography (CFF-Centrum för fotografi) in Sweden, with the ambition of deepening knowledge about Swedish photography and helping it to reach a wider audience in Sweden and abroad.
Participating artists: Ikram Abdulkadir, Karin Alfredsson, Elin Berge, Maja Daniels, Charlotta Hammar, Erik Holmstedt, Martina Hoogland Ivanow, Cia Kanthi, Heikki Kaski, Klara Källström & Thobias Fäldt, Mårten Lange, Inka & Niclas Lindergård, Eric Magassa, Martin Magntorn, Chris Maluszynski, Katarina Pirak Sikku, Mia Rogersdotter Gran, Sofia Runarsdotter, Johannes Samuelsson and Märta Thisner.
The book is distributed by Art & Theory Publishing.
Periferi
Periferi is a project by Centrum för fotografi that started in 2021 in Västra Götaland. By publishing photo zines from various photographers, we aim to spotlight photography being created across Sweden. The individual photographers’ zines are presented in a collective box set.
So far, Periferi has taken place in Västra Götaland (2021), Skåne (2022), and Northern Sweden (2023). The Center for Photography intends to carry out Periferi across the entire country, creating four box sets featuring the work of approximately 60 different photographers. The result will be a remarkable documentation of contemporary photography in Sweden. The photographers design their own zines with guidance from the design agency Lundgren+Lindqvist.
In the spring of 2023, the Periferi project took place in northern Sweden. This time, the participants were from Västernorrland, Västerbotten, and Norrbotten. The jury that selected the 14 participants included Mia Bengtsson Plynning from CFF, Lina Aastrup from Västernorrland County Museum, Cecilia Andersson from the MAN Museum, and Anna Norrlander and Lejla Porovic from Sundsvall Museum.
