During the fall of 2023, second-year students in the photography program at HDK-Valand have explored a variety of concepts, processes, and individual ideas to create a unique collection of artist books that delve into the complexity of the city.
Each student has undergone a personal journey, exploring themes such as identity, escape, fears, quests, disorientation, belonging, old and new wounds. The works simply provide the viewer with an opportunity to reflect on various aspects of urban life.
From traditional photography to innovative concepts and craftsmanship, each book has explored form and materiality. These books are more than mere collections of photographs; they are artworks in themselves, where each page tells a part of the student’s personal journey and interpretation of the city, providing a deeper experience of the student’s artistic expression.
