Meteorites, Christian relics, folktales and ancient myths, planetariums and images of the night sky – Martin searches for the metaphorical “common thread” that runs through them all.
Emilia Martin (PL/NL) is an artist and storyteller who works with photography, writing and sound. During the conversation, she will take you on a journey through her artistic practice, which is above all about the interconnectedness of things, concepts and stories. Finally, we will hear about Emilia Martin’s work during her residency in Landskrona, where she dedicated herself to the Andersson Sisters who grew up on a farm outside Asmundtorp around the turn of the century in 1900. They wove, sewed and embroidered everything for the future home. The bridal coffins were filled.
Time passed and the sisters never married. Everything was lying in the coffins. Thanks to a gift from grandchildren, the textile treasure is in the Landskrona Museum’s collection.
Inspired by the fragmented story of the Andersson sisters and their rich historical symbolism they and their textile work bear, based on the conviction that textiles are effective tools for storytelling, she intends to work with archival and found photographs, photographic documentation and textiles to weave a story about female togetherness.
