LANDSKRONA FOTO FESTIVAL 2016

The 2016 Landskrona Foto Festival, held from August 19 to 28 in Landskrona, Sweden, marked the fourth edition of the event and introduced a new artistic direction under Christian Caujolle and Jenny Nordquist . The festival featured over 150 photographers across approximately 20 exhibitions, showcasing a mix of renowned artists and emerging talents. Notable highlights included works by Hasselblad Award winner Joan Fontcuberta, a significant European private photo collection, and a unique exhibition on 150 years of Swedish scientific photography. The festival also hosted the Scandinavian premiere of the documentary “Don’t Blink – Robert Frank,”.

Emphasizing contemporary photographic art, the festival expanded its scope to include moving images, video art, and installations. Many exhibitions were relocated from traditional galleries to public spaces like streets, squares, and parks, aiming to engage visitors and encourage reflection on public spaces often dominated by commercial interests.

The festival also featured a Portfolio Review, offering photographers the opportunity to present their work to international reviewers. Polish photographer Kacper Kowalski won the 2016 Best Portfolio Review Award for his aerial photography project “Over.”

With a rich program of exhibitions, photobooks, seminars, and artist talks, the 2016 Landskrona Foto Festival reinforced its ambition to become a central hub for photography in Scandinavia.
