Landskrona Foto Festival 2017 took place from September 8–17 and marked the fifth edition of the festival. Under the direction of Christian Caujolle and Jenny Nordquist, Landskrona was transformed into a center for contemporary photography, with exhibitions hosted in everything from medieval castles and churches to parks and shop windows. The festival focused on integrating photography into public space and offered a platform for both established and emerging photographers from around the world.
Among the most notable exhibitions were Icons by the Swiss duo Cortis & Sonderegger, who recreated iconic photographs in miniature models, and The Others by French photographer Olivier Culmann, exploring identity and representation. In the Exercishallen venue, the group exhibition Up to Now from Benetton’s cultural platform Fabrica featured works by, among others, Jessica Dimmock and Liz Hingley. Outdoors, visitors could experience Berndnaut Smilde’s Nimbus, in which the artist created ephemeral indoor clouds, captured in photographs as fleeting sculptures.
The festival also included portfolio reviews with participants from 26 countries, photobook days, artist talks, and workshops. Thematically, the festival touched on issues such as identity, reality, and the human relationship with nature, without being tied to a single overarching theme. This allowed for a wide range of expressions and perspectives, making Landskrona Foto Festival 2017 a vibrant and international meeting place for photography.
